Hip-Hop World Awards

Awards Season began with the Future Awards and you all know i was excited about that right?

There is another Awards Show on now; the Hip-Hop World Awards, and i love the categories and the nominees and can't wait to get there and represent with Truly Unruly
(It will make sense soon!)

Now, i couldn't speak much about the Future Awards seeing as i was one of the judges, but thankfully, with Hip Hop World Awards, i fit yarn well.
So here are the categories, and whom i would be voting and why.

ALBUM OF THE YEAR
The nominees are FAZE, asa, MODE 9, PSQUARE and TUFACE.
I think that it is pretty clear asa will win; and i think that if i did vote, i would have to vote for her.
If asa was not on this list, then i would have voted FAZE cos i actually just loved the album

ARTISTE OF THE YEAR
Nominees are 2FACE, OLU, PSQUARE and D'BANJ.
Im voting the koko! Or i should sha
I mean, you only need to go for shows and see what the response to him is like! He and 9ice damn well stole the spotlight at an evening with psquare sef.
People just love the koko-master and he has delivered quite a number of hits.

I will however be voting PSQUARE
The simple truth is, D'Banj became a Mo Hits collective and a lot of the songs are collabos and all
I think PSquare have an okay album (wish it was more solid), slamming videos, and are churning in quite a number of performances.

SONG OF THE YEAR
Nominations are STYLEE, KOLOMENTAL, SEE ME SO, DO ME and YAHOOZEE
Come on, what else should win but 'awon ko waiye wa sise, awon ko waiye wa jaiye'?

RECORDING OF THE YEAR
Nominations went to 'NEED SOMEONE' by FAZE, 'TRUE LOVE' by 2FACE, 'GREENLAND' by TY BELLO, 'STYLEE' by JIMMY JATT and CO, and 'BIMBANKE' by asa

PRODUCER OF THE YEAR
ID CABASA (Ruggedy Baba), COBHAMS (bibanke), OJB (see me so), JOKYANIE (stylee), PUFFY T (yahoozee), MOSA (greenland) are the contenders for this award.

On this, i am confused to be honest and so i think i will just let other voters decide.

BEST MUSIC VIDEO
The Nominees are, CLARENCE PETERS (adara), DJ TEE (stylee), COSA (fire on the mountain), TY BELLO and ABBEY (greenland), and JUDE OKOYE (do me).
Okay, first let me say that most of these videos were beautiful
particular props to TY's and Psquare's for the Post Production quality
However, i have to say that as a music lover, i am looking for days when more of our vids will be story-based as opposed to just free form; i think its the easy way out
Having said that, i think the award shd go to a video that is fun, beautiful, simple and easy going; and here is to artistes directing their stuff!
TY and ABBEY

BEST REGGAE / DANCEHALL
UCHIE, TIMAYA and AFRICAN CHINA are the nominees and i vote TIMAYA
Cos we getting higher dammit

BEST R'n' B / POP ALBUM
GRASS TO GRACE (Tu Face), INDEPENDENT (Faze), CALL MY NAME (Niyola), PRESS ON (Indispensables), and GAME OVER (PSquare) are the nominees
Now, i dont know why Niyola was nominated and if anyone thinks they know, then feel free to let me know. Im not sure about the Indispensables but the truth is, i do hear of their name and album a lot even if i dont actually hear the songs! Lol
R 'n' B / Pop?

But thats because, to be honest, not that sold on what a Nigerian R 'n' B or Pop album sounds like!

BEST RAP ALBUM
The nominees are most of the usual suspects, and one underdog so to speak. MODE 9, JIMMY JATT (tha definition), RUGGEDMAN, SASHA and TERRY THA RAPMAN
So i will of course, vote the underdog!

BEST COLLABO
'STYLEE' with Jimmy Jatt, Ela Joe, Tu Face and Mode 9
'RUGGEDY BABA' with Rugged man featuring 9ice
'LORI LE' with X Project featuring Konga
'YAHOOZEE' with Olu Maintain and LKT
'BOOTY CALL' with Mo' Hits All Stars

Okay, for anyone who does not like collabos; abeg listen to these songs!
I know who shd win though and lets put it this way
'I HAVE NO BOOTY, I HAVE NO BOOTY'...

BEST RAP SINGLE
Nominees once again are 'LAGI MO' (Rooftop MC's), STYLEE, U KNOW MY P (Naeto C feat. Ikechukwu) and CROWD MENTALITY (M.I)

Everyone knows im not the authority on rap; i love Tupac and Eminem, and then i like songs. So generally.
I will therefore not vote!

BEST VOCAL PERFORMANCE (MALE)
TUFACE in STYLEE, 9ICE in RUGGEDY BABA, WANDE COAL in OLOLUFE, and FAZE in SOMEONE LIKE ME.
err... im not sure whose idea it was to choose these songs in particular for the nominations
I think that TUFACE has better vocal performances on his pwn album jo!
If this was MAKE THEM TALK, then there would have been no need to talk.
BOOTY CALL shd have been a better song to nominate Wande for cos he just killed that chorus and bridge abeg
and of all the songs, it is SOMEONE LIKE ME?

BEST VOCAL PERFORMANCE (FEMALE)
KWEEN in JEBELE, asa in BIBANKE, TY BELLO in EKUNDAYO, LARA GEORGE in IJOBA ORUN, and NIYOLA in CALL MY NAME
You know what, this could be a long conversation so lets just say LARA GEORGE and walk away

NEXT RATED
M.I, WANDE COAL, GT THE GUITARMAN, BANKY W and CYRUS THE VIRUS are all nominated in this category which i think means the next big thing
Its a toss up for me between WANDE COAL and M.I and it shd be M.I but just cos its easier to be a Pop Star than a Rap Star, i vote Wande Coal

HIP HOP WORLD REVELATION
The nominees are:
9ICE, asa, TY BELLO, SASHA and OLU MAINTAIN
I have no clue what this category is frigging about!!!

Now lets talk HALL OF FAME

I think that OBI and OLISA have both doen tremendous things in the music industry and i like that we have started honouring peeps for things like that
