PSquare don vex!
Okay, this is a quick blog to say that PSQUARE is upset cos they did not win a single award at the just concluded Hip Hop World Awards.
Infact, they have described the awards show as YORUBA HIP HOP WORLD AWARDS and have gone on to accuse Ayo Animashaun of tribalism and partiality.
Jude said Ayo Animashun dissapointed them by making sure that only people who won were of South West origin (Yoruba) except for Ruggedman,Timaya and 2face Idibia. He alleged that 'Stylee' the song that won the best music video is trash compared to the 'Do Me' video he did for Psquare.DJ TEE won the award because he shot it.He noted that DJ Tee is the technical director for the award and his wife is also a top official of HipTv, owned by the award organisers. In his words "That award should have been called Yoruba Hip Hop award"
He also alledged that Rugged Man's name was smuggled into the list at the last minute because the name was not on the original long list earlier published in newspapers or magazines.

http://niyitabiti.blogspot.com/2008/03/breaking-newspsquare-says-hip-hop-world.html
I was at the awards and some of those awards might have been given out for political reasons so i can understand if some people complain
unfortunately, i doubt if PSSUARE shd be the ones complaining.
Im sorry, but did they really expect to win ALBUM OF THE YEAR?
because..?
and ARTISTE OF THE YEAR? i mean, i wdnt have minded terribly if they won, but DBANJ and TU FACE have also been outstanding artistes
'DO ME' might be an excellently well remixed version of 'Busy Body', but it has not surpassed records held by YAHOOZEE
i can understand their argument for their video winning VIDEO OF THE YEAR but, TY BELLO who did fantastic work on GREENLAND isnt calling a press conference yet is she?
And, did PSQUARE really, REALLY expect to beat TU FACE for the POP album of the year?Do they know what Tu Face album sounds like?
We might have spoilt PSQUARE a bit. we love them and think they are fantastic performers but let them not then misconstrue that love for support above others
there were great artistes and songs nominated for those awards and anyone of them would have deserved the gongs; if psquare had won some categories, i am sure that others would have cried foul as well
i can understand their being upset, but at the same time, they need to be careful what they say and how they convey it
sometimes, winning is more about grace in defeat than the actually win itself

Hip Hop Award Winners
So the Hip Hop World Awards came and went and it was a lovely show on the whole.
If u want to find out what I thought about the vibe, look and feel of the show, then you can read my article in GUARDIAN LIFE but here, I just want to talk about the winners!
ALBUM OF THE YEAR
For this category, I had said that I would have voted FAZE if asa was not on the list but I felt asa would win anyways.
The winner was…. asa!
Congratulations asa!
It was an award well deserved when you think about it; I mean, every song was on point and all that jazz
ARTISTE OF THE YEAR
Here, I was casting my vote for PSquare.
I felt that they had a good album, and that they also had some solid performances. I later got ‘schooled’ by Mike Majic on why TU FACE deserves that award and it made a lot of sense.
In the end, the winner was the Koko Master himself… D’BANJ
Well deserved?
Let all the arguments begin now, but what cannot be denied is that DBAnj is a mega star. You should see the way any crowd reacts to him; even the most snobbish set.
SONG OF THE YEAR
In my exact words, “Come on, what else should win but 'awon ko waiye wa sise, awon ko waiye wa jaiye”?
And guess who won?
Of course it was… YAHOOZEE
I mean, that was the song of the year.
I’m not going to argue on the lyrical content or whether it is a masterpiece. I’m just supporting the song that even old women sing in church
LOL
RECORDING OF THE YEAR
Like I said in my very insightful and enlightened way, “Recording of the year is about technical sturves right? Bibanke cannot be tried”
And it was not tried
This song was well recorded, masterfully mixed, and well-mastered.
So congrats to the Producer, Engineers and the Masters (hey, what else do you call the person that mastered the song?)
PRODUCER OF THE YEAR
I was confused concerning this cos I thought there so many good songs and I was content to sit on the fence.
Well, the winner was … COBHAMS (for Bibanke)
Yes oh!
And according to Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi, Cobhams also gave the best acceptance speech.
BEST MUSIC VIDEO
I said I wanted it to go to ABBEY and TY BELLO for Greenland,
This category didn’t leave me too satisfied.
While I felt that our videos need more content, I still thought there was massive competition going on, and no matter who won, there would always be tongues wagging.
The award went to… DJ TEE for STYLEE!
BEST REGGAE / DANCEHALL
I said it had to be TImaya oh, and on this one, I think I had very strong opinions.
The award went to… TRUE STORY by TIMAYABEST R'n' B / POP ALBUM
Like I said, not sure what a Nigerian R ‘n’ B / Pop album should sound like, plus, I still do not get why Niyola was nominated in that category.
The award went to … GRASS TO GRACE, TUFACE IDIBIA
BEST RAP ALBUM
Do not have much to say on this category.
Oh wait, I might have something to say though. It was funny being at the show to see that at the HIP HOP world awards, the HIP HOP categories and performers got the least applause and crowd acceptance. I guess that’s why they had to diversify and include other award categories
Lol.
The winner on the night… RUGGEDY BABA, RUGGEDMAN
BEST COLLABO
I declared that the winner of this award should be ‘I have no booty…’
I did stomp my feet a bit when the winner was announced although once again, Mike Majic ‘schooled’ me and told me why they won.
It is a collabo with quite a number of heavy weights from different labels and different egos. And it was a good song wasn’t it.
So I’m convinced.
The winner was … STYLEE (Jimmy Jatt, Mode 9, 2Face and Ela Joe)
BEST RAP SINGLE
Okay!
I might have wanted a certain song to win for sentimental reasons (blood, water, rock), but I must admit that the first award given on the night, went to Africa’s most anticipated hip-hop artiste. And what is even more amazing is, this guy does not have an album released yet, but is building his career one show at a time. I love any artiste that focuses on performing as much as recording, and any artiste willing to pay his dues so I was very excited!
The winner… CROWD MENTALITY (M.I)
And guess what?
He will be performing at the JEANS FOR GENES Fashion Exhibition!
BEST VOCAL PERFORMANCE (MALE)
I was going to sit on the fence for this category simply because I did not agree with the SONG choices.
I loved the artistes nominated but felt the nominations should have been for different songs.
In the end, you all know I was ecstatic when the winner was announced!
The winner? 9ICE in RUGGEDY BABA
BEST VOCAL PERFORMANCE (FEMALE)
Lara George should have won this award.
Here, I WILL fight!
I think we get carried away sometimes and forget what the award category is about.
Lara killed every note on ‘Ijoba Orun’, and it was a fantastic delivery.
That’s who I felt should have won, and I will defend that any day.
The award went to.. asa for BIBANKE
NEXT RATED
I had an opinion here as well. I said I thought it should be M.I, but that because it is easier in Nigeria to be a pop star than a rap star, I was voting WANDE COAL
I was impressed with the way the winner reacted to his win, and I am glad he won.
The winner was… WANDE COAL
So, next rated… you know we are all waiting for you abi?
HIP HOP WORLD REVELATION
What is a revelation?
The act of revealing or disclosing; especially a striking disclosure, as of something not before realised.
I have heard people say none of the artistes nominated is a new artiste and that infact, ‘asa’ has won a similar award at the previous Hip Hop World award show.
Well, that is the definition of ‘Revelation’ and I can defend practically all the artistes nominated in that regard.
9ice has been known as the collabo master, but this is him coming to his own;
TY BELLO was in the group, KUSH; this was her coming out on her own;
Sasha has always been on the scene but now has her album;
Olu was of course in MAINTAIN and so this was his first solo effort.
Having said all that, it is time to once again announce the winner.
9ICE! Yes, apparently, Gongon ti so!
LYRICIST ON THE ROLL was MODE NINE for the song, ‘CONTRADICTION’, and AFRICAN ARTISTE OF THE YEAR was BATMAN SAMINI for ‘LAMBORI’.
And of course, two people were honoured and inducted into the Hip Hop World Awards HALL OF FAME
- Olisa Adibua
- Obi Asika
So,
Hip Hop World Awards 2009 came and it was altogether for me, a glam night spent with the UNRULIES.
CONGRATULATIONS to all the winners, especially 9ICE, M.I and asa.
If u want to find out what I thought about the vibe, look and feel of the show, then you can read my article in GUARDIAN LIFE but here, I just want to talk about the winners!

ENOUGH
I am not tall enough
Always standing on your shoulders to reach high
I am not funny enough
Have to tell the jokes i hear from your lips
I am not cool enough
Have to wait for your stamp of approval
I am not smart enough
Needing the applause that confirms my worth
I hate that with you i am not enough
I look forward to the one day when i stand
Unashamed
Unafraid

Hip Hop World Awards Nominees Party!
Got the text last week and since Thursdays are my only free days from the Apprentice Africa, i thought it was divine. And even better, i could go with the Unrulies!
Until the Unrulies began declining one after the other; and it was go alone, or not go at all
As of Wednesday afternoon, i was voting Not going at all. But somewhere between having an odd day and having an odd night, i decided to go.
Take off points were from Ikoyi and Walter Carrington (V.I) and i was scheduled for Ikoyi but somewhere between getting wrong directions from a certain crazy half of a certain hip-hop group, and generally being on the island, i found myself at Walter Carrington
(I could tell you about how i thought i was lost, then realised i wasn't, then was told i was, then wasn't again, but this isn't about my personas is it?)
I got on a boat with a bunch of giggling girls; twas nice to pretend to not be bothered by the water nor the beautiful boat. LOL
The parry was underway when i got there; Princess was holding forte in the pool with her impromptu competitions, Jedi and the Crazy half of Rooftop MC's were entertaining those on dry land, and some people were enjoying the VIP lounge already!
I think Ayo wanted to see what Celebrities would do if they were kept hungry long enough and we must have got great television content because by the time the food came, everyone went scrambling
HIP TV got great shots of stars holding their paper plates out a la boarding school, and all i have to say is i was a lady; pictures that say otherwise have been doctored!!!
We need't have rushed though because there was more food than we could truly handle; i mean as of when the last man left, there was still barbecue and sweet treats in abundance, and drinks must have been like sea water!
Wish i had remembered to take my own cooler there; i for do sharp Roadside business tomorrow!
It was nice to see the celebs that were there, willing to let their hair down and have fun. Jedi showed he is not only a great comedian, but apparently a fantastic dancer as well, Wande Coal set a lot of female hearts racing, Kween was her usual elegant self (Kween, how do you stay elegant on a beach? May i come take lessons?) and the HIP TV crew forgot work for a minute (shout out to that crazy Dayo who can shake what his mama gave him!)
Sasha, Cynthia, Omawunmi, Niyola and the other ladies in entertainment also represented, and by the time the day was over (they might have had to put me on a boat kicking and screaming but if there is no evidence, i will deny deny deny), it was a surreal day well spent.
Shout out to one fantastic producer (KRAFT and CON.tra.diction are cooking tins'), Terry the Rapman (loving the yellow) and 'J', Dj Tee (who spent his boat ride back home getting inspiration for his video shoots) and DJ Jimmy Jatt, GT the Guitarman, Joke Jaiyesinmi (always a gracious hostess), and all the people i am too drunk to remember now
(And this is with me not taking anything stronger than my coke oh)
And miss you Unrulies cos the P would have been mad with you there
P.S,
I met someone so fingers crossed okay?

Hip-Hop World Awards
Awards Season began with the Future Awards and you all know i was excited about that right?
There is another Awards Show on now; the Hip-Hop World Awards, and i love the categories and the nominees and can't wait to get there and represent with Truly Unruly
(It will make sense soon!)
Now, i couldn't speak much about the Future Awards seeing as i was one of the judges, but thankfully, with Hip Hop World Awards, i fit yarn well.
So here are the categories, and whom i would be voting and why.
ENJOY!!!
ALBUM OF THE YEAR
The nominees are FAZE, asa, MODE 9, PSQUARE and TUFACE.
I think that it is pretty clear asa will win; and i think that if i did vote, i would have to vote for her.
If asa was not on this list, then i would have voted FAZE cos i actually just loved the album
ARTISTE OF THE YEAR
Nominees are 2FACE, OLU, PSQUARE and D'BANJ.
Im voting the koko! Or i should sha
I mean, you only need to go for shows and see what the response to him is like! He and 9ice damn well stole the spotlight at an evening with psquare sef.
People just love the koko-master and he has delivered quite a number of hits.
I will however be voting PSQUARE
The simple truth is, D'Banj became a Mo Hits collective and a lot of the songs are collabos and all
I think PSquare have an okay album (wish it was more solid), slamming videos, and are churning in quite a number of performances.
SONG OF THE YEAR
Nominations are STYLEE, KOLOMENTAL, SEE ME SO, DO ME and YAHOOZEE
Come on, what else should win but 'awon ko waiye wa sise, awon ko waiye wa jaiye'?
COME ON!
RECORDING OF THE YEAR
Nominations went to 'NEED SOMEONE' by FAZE, 'TRUE LOVE' by 2FACE, 'GREENLAND' by TY BELLO, 'STYLEE' by JIMMY JATT and CO, and 'BIMBANKE' by asa
Recording for me is about technical sturves abi?
So BIMBANKE can't be tried
PRODUCER OF THE YEAR
ID CABASA (Ruggedy Baba), COBHAMS (bibanke), OJB (see me so), JOKYANIE (stylee), PUFFY T (yahoozee), MOSA (greenland) are the contenders for this award.
On this, i am confused to be honest and so i think i will just let other voters decide.
BEST MUSIC VIDEO
The Nominees are, CLARENCE PETERS (adara), DJ TEE (stylee), COSA (fire on the mountain), TY BELLO and ABBEY (greenland), and JUDE OKOYE (do me).
Okay, first let me say that most of these videos were beautiful
particular props to TY's and Psquare's for the Post Production quality
However, i have to say that as a music lover, i am looking for days when more of our vids will be story-based as opposed to just free form; i think its the easy way out
Having said that, i think the award shd go to a video that is fun, beautiful, simple and easy going; and here is to artistes directing their stuff!
TY and ABBEY
BEST REGGAE / DANCEHALL
UCHIE, TIMAYA and AFRICAN CHINA are the nominees and i vote TIMAYA
Cos we getting higher dammit
BEST R'n' B / POP ALBUM
GRASS TO GRACE (Tu Face), INDEPENDENT (Faze), CALL MY NAME (Niyola), PRESS ON (Indispensables), and GAME OVER (PSquare) are the nominees
Now, i dont know why Niyola was nominated and if anyone thinks they know, then feel free to let me know. Im not sure about the Indispensables but the truth is, i do hear of their name and album a lot even if i dont actually hear the songs! Lol
R 'n' B / Pop?
Err...
Grass to Grace
But thats because, to be honest, not that sold on what a Nigerian R 'n' B or Pop album sounds like!
BEST RAP ALBUM
The nominees are most of the usual suspects, and one underdog so to speak. MODE 9, JIMMY JATT (tha definition), RUGGEDMAN, SASHA and TERRY THA RAPMAN
So i will of course, vote the underdog!
BEST COLLABO
'STYLEE' with Jimmy Jatt, Ela Joe, Tu Face and Mode 9
'RUGGEDY BABA' with Rugged man featuring 9ice
'LORI LE' with X Project featuring Konga
'YAHOOZEE' with Olu Maintain and LKT
'BOOTY CALL' with Mo' Hits All Stars
Okay, for anyone who does not like collabos; abeg listen to these songs!
I know who shd win though and lets put it this way
'I HAVE NO BOOTY, I HAVE NO BOOTY'...
BEST RAP SINGLE
Nominees once again are 'LAGI MO' (Rooftop MC's), STYLEE, U KNOW MY P (Naeto C feat. Ikechukwu) and CROWD MENTALITY (M.I)
Everyone knows im not the authority on rap; i love Tupac and Eminem, and then i like songs. So generally.
I will therefore not vote!
BEST VOCAL PERFORMANCE (MALE)
TUFACE in STYLEE, 9ICE in RUGGEDY BABA, WANDE COAL in OLOLUFE, and FAZE in SOMEONE LIKE ME.
err... im not sure whose idea it was to choose these songs in particular for the nominations
I think that TUFACE has better vocal performances on his pwn album jo!
If this was MAKE THEM TALK, then there would have been no need to talk.
BOOTY CALL shd have been a better song to nominate Wande for cos he just killed that chorus and bridge abeg
and of all the songs, it is SOMEONE LIKE ME?
err?
So im not voting!
Totally wrong choices
BEST VOCAL PERFORMANCE (FEMALE)
KWEEN in JEBELE, asa in BIBANKE, TY BELLO in EKUNDAYO, LARA GEORGE in IJOBA ORUN, and NIYOLA in CALL MY NAME
You know what, this could be a long conversation so lets just say LARA GEORGE and walk away
NEXT RATED
M.I, WANDE COAL, GT THE GUITARMAN, BANKY W and CYRUS THE VIRUS are all nominated in this category which i think means the next big thing
Its a toss up for me between WANDE COAL and M.I and it shd be M.I but just cos its easier to be a Pop Star than a Rap Star, i vote Wande Coal
HIP HOP WORLD REVELATION
The nominees are:
9ICE, asa, TY BELLO, SASHA and OLU MAINTAIN
I have no clue what this category is frigging about!!!
But i vote 9ice sha
abi?
I am fashing AFRICAN ARTISTE OF THE YEAR and LYRICIST ON THE ROLL.
Now lets talk HALL OF FAME
Are they asking us to vote?
Cos u shdnt have to vote for this now, abi?
I think that OBI and OLISA have both doen tremendous things in the music industry and i like that we have started honouring peeps for things like that
